Tunnels Underneath Cementerio Central

The Masilotti treasure was never brought up from the ground by Clara, despite extensive digging. The city of Montevideo, on the other hand discovered a treasure of its own in the same ground. They found the catacomb of tunnels beneath their city, and so rediscovered a vital part of their own history formerly sequestered within military archives, thanks to the descriptions thereof in Michele Masilotti’s Diary which Clara brought with her. The President of Uruguay offers Clara personal recognition, in the mailed notice that yet another tunnel is found in 1973.

Clara would sign each day, on receipt of the judicial decisions to continue the digging. On final day of 1st dig, press indicates here that though no treasure was found, the treasure hunt was likely to continue. Incidentally, Clara’s table and chair would be broken up and taken as souvenirs by the people of Montevideo.
